What is a casting wax mold
Casting wax molds are an important part of the precision casting or investment casting process and are often used to
create wax models that are shaped in the same way as the final metal parts that need to be cast. Here is a basic
investment in the casting process, including the production and use of wax molds:
Wax mold production: The first need to create a mold corresponding to the shape of the final part, this mold is
generally made of metal materials (such as aluminum alloy). This mold should be able to be used repeatedly to
produce a large number of wax models of the same shape.
Wax molding: Molten wax or similar fusible material is injected into it using a casting wax mold and cooled to
solidify it into shape.
Gate system assembly: The finished wax mold is assembled to the gate and the cylinder to form a tree structure
for casting multiple parts at the same time.
Coating and sand laying: Dip the wax mold and its gate system into a refractory paste, then sprinkle with
refractory sand, repeated many times until the thickness of the shell is sufficient.
Wax mold disappearance: The coated wax mold is heated so that the wax mold melts and flows out of the mold,
leaving an accurate fire-resistant shell.
Sintered shell: The empty shell is heated to strengthen by sintering and burns away any remaining wax material
and other contamination.
Casting: Pour the molten metal into the furnace, and pour the preheated refractory mold shell, the metal in the
mold shell cooling solidified forming.
Cleaning and post-treatment: After the metal is cooled and cured, break the shell, remove the gate system on the
casting, and then carry out the necessary cleaning and post-treatment, such as heat treatment, machining and
surface treatment.
Each step requires precise control to ensure that the casting can meet the design specifications and quality
requirements. Precision casting can produce castings with complex shapes, precise dimensions and smooth
surfaces, which are widely used in aviation, automobiles, industrial machinery and medical devices.
