Advantages and disadvantages of EVA materials

2024-03-19 12:52:30 EVA

EVA (ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer) material is a common plastic material with good flexibility and transparency. It is

usually used in the middle sole of shoes, sports MATS, toys, handbags, packaging materials and other fields. Here are some

advantages and disadvantages of EVA materials:

Advantages:

Lightweight: EVA is a low-density material and therefore very lightweight, which makes the finished product easy to carry

and move.

Soft and elastic: EVA material has good elasticity and softness, can provide excellent cushioning performance, suitable for

use as insole material.

Water resistance: EVA does not absorb water and has good resistance to most salt solutions, acids and alkalis, so it will not

suffer great damage when used in a humid environment.

Chemical corrosion resistance: EVA resistance to grease, oil, some chemicals ability is strong, suitable for all kinds of protective

equipment.

Insulation: EVA has good insulation, which can prevent current from passing through to a certain extent.

Good processability: EVA is easy to cut, bond, shape, etc., to meet the needs of complex design and processing.

Cons:

Poor heat resistance: The heat resistance of EVA is not high, and long-term exposure to high temperature will cause the material

to become soft and the mechanical strength to decrease.

General weather resistance: long-term open-air placement will cause the performance of EVA materials to decline, resulting in

aging, such as yellow color and reduced strength.

General tensile resistance: Compared to some other plastics or rubber materials, EVA has low tensile strength and is not suitable

for use in applications requiring high strength.

Weak thermal sealing performance: In the packaging industry, EVA thermal sealing performance is poor and may not be suitable

for some specific thermal sealing needs.

Weak anti-oxidation and anti-ultraviolet ability: EVA materials without special treatment are more susceptible to oxidation and

ultraviolet light, resulting in reduced material performance.

In order to overcome these shortcomings, EVA materials are often improved by mixing other polymers, or adding additives

such as antioxidants and UV absorbers. In product design and engineering, material selection and performance adjustment

are made according to the requirements of practical applications.
